Polk County Commissioners erected concrete markers at the boundaries of Polk County, Florida way back during the “boom” years of the state, around 1920, alongside the main roads leading in and out of the county. There are several like this one located in the county.

Pokeweed is actually a poisonous plant, but when the green leaves are cooked, it is called poke sallet. One does not really want to eat poke raw. Pokeweed grows wild in the American south; as such it represents “forage food.”
