 Polk County Commissioners erected concrete markers at the boundaries of Polk County, Florida way back during the “boom” years of the state, around 1920, alongside the main roads leading in and out of the county. There are several like this one located in the county.

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park near Micanopy Florida covers 21,000 acres and is a remarkable grassland unlike any other in the Deep South. Buffalo and wild Spanish horses graze on the prairie and historic sites dot the preserve.
