Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park near Micanopy Florida covers 21,000 acres and is a remarkable grassland unlike any other in the Deep South. Buffalo and wild Spanish horses graze on the prairie and historic sites dot the preserve.

That place is very interesting. While I’ve never stopped to have a look, I have been across that very long, flat stretch on I-75 many times. I did some research on it before, it used to be a lake with paddle wheel boats on it, carrying passengers across the lake. Circa 1800s I think. It’s amazing to look across it, so huge.
I had read that, it was once a large lake then it pretty much disappeared. It’s a beautiful area.
Thanks John!
