.The Van Dyke Brown process was invented in 1842 by the English astronomer Sir John Herschel. This process is considered a printing-out technique in which an enlarged negative is placed directly onto a sensitized substrate and exposed to light. The exposed areas turn brown, while the unexposed areas remain white.
